Moving Around in the Library Catalog

Navigating in the library catalog is easy. As you search, a number of buttons will appear at the top and bottom of your screen. Some of the most common ones provide various search options, options for viewing your results, requesting items, and functions such as limiting, sorting, marking, printing, etc. your results. Here are some of the most frequently seen ones.

Buttons for Various Search Options:

[new search button] Returns you to the main search screen that we saw in the preceding section.
[another search button] Returns you to the search screen for the same type of search. For example, if you did a Title Search and pressed the Another Search button, you would return to the Title Search page.
[modify search button Returns you to the keyword search screen so that you may change your search.
[show similar items button Seeks additional items that are on a similar topic.
[search as keywords button Repeats a Library of Congress subject search you just did as a keyword search. Helpful in finding additional results.

Buttons for Viewing Your Results

[extended display button Takes you to a more detailed display where you can view the general location of the material.
[brief display button Takes you to an appreviated display of mainly title information.
[return to list button Returns you to the list of results for the search you just did.
[marc display button Displays the cataloging data record for an item. Note: don't confuse this button with the "Mark This Record" button.

Requesting Items

request this item button Takes you to a form that you may use to borrow an item. Borrowing restrictions may apply; see the section on Borrowing from MOBIUS Libraries for more information.

Buttons for Limiting, Sorting, Marking, Printing, etc. Your Results

limit/sort button Allows you to redo a search to limit the results by various criteria (e.g. language, type of material, etc.); you may also sort the results by year of publication.
[mark this record button Allows you to mark a record for later printing, saving, or emailing. Note: don't confuse this button with the "MARC Display" button.
[view saved Takes you to a screen where you may print, email or save your list of selected items.
[clear saved records button Erases any records that you had previously marked.
