Searching by Title for Videos and Recorded Music

When you only know part of the title, you can do a special kind of keyword search called a "Title Keyword" search to find the item you want. From the main search screen, look at the list of Guided Searches (Keyword, Title, Author, etc.). Select the "Keyword" link to go to the Keyword search screen (shown below).

[keyword search screen]

Type a word or phrase from the title preceded by t: For example, to search for titles with the word thing somewhere in the title, type t:thing.

Note that on the search screen is an item called "Material Format". Click on the arrow at the end of this row to display a list of media and non-media items available at the library. For instance, you may select one of these formats to restrict your search to videos (which includes VHS, DVDs and laser disks) or audio, music (which includes audiocassettes, LPs and CDs).

So if you type t:thing and set the Material Format for videos, you will get a list of videos, DVDs, and laser disks that all have the word "thing" in the title, such as Do the Right Thing and Beautiful Thing.

The same holds true for music. Type t:mass and set the material format for "audio, music" to retrieve recordings with the word "mass" in the title. Note that you will get listings not only for entire albums but also for individual songs containing your keyword in the title.

There may be times when you will want to search for media versions of works by an author, screenwriter, or composer. These searches will be covered in the next part.
